So About Me...

Hello, I'm Jason Nguyen.

I am currently a junior at Indiana University-Bloomington majoring in Elementary Education with an Arts Concentration and minoring in Counseling.  I grew up in Fishers, Indiana for the majority of my life with my two older sisters, my mother, my father. I have had the privilege to be around amazing teachers throughout my K-12 experience in the HSE District.  I was inspired to be a teacher during 6th grade because I had to stay inside for recess because of my allergies.  Luckily, my 5th grade teacher noticed me in the library and she asked me if I wanted to help her in the classroom, grade papers, set up the bulletin boards, etc.  I did not know at the time that I would fall in love with this and would lead to where I am today.  My high school, Fishers High School, had a Cadet Teaching Program where I got to help assist/teach for classes that were available.  I chose a kindergarten class that was across the street from my school.  My teacher that I helped gave me insight into how to be a great elementary school teacher, but most importantly, she taught me the importance of an individual and showed me that I do matter and that I have made such a positive impact on my 21 kindergartners.  This was the "cherry on top" moment of what I want to do in my future and that I can impact many young educators that they can do whatever they want to do and that I can be there for anything that they need.

Beliefs in Technology

Technology is crucial to utilize in an elementary classroom or any classroom in that matter.  The reason being is that technology has many options that lets students learn how to think critically, to use problem-solving skills and to enhance their abilities to employ technological skills.  These skills that I listed lets students become a more creative thinking educator, a more effective person, and overall a more well-rounded person.  In the future, I plan on using iPads, different types of robotic toys, and an Hour Of Code.

My Pedagogical Belief

My pedagogical belief is that every student has needs and wants that I have to keep an open-mind to at all times, while also knowing how to have a balance of a professional and friend.  Some students need more help than others and everyone needs to understand that it is fair that some receive more than others.  There are challenges that students face outside of school and we, as teachers, need to accommodate those students and make sure they all have a safe space at school and to never take it personally.
